PIERRE, S.D.-  Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of South Dakota Highway Patrol, is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred in the early hours of October 17, 2012. The incident occurred at 57th Street and Western Avenue in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to initiate a vehicle stop. The female driver refused and a short pursuit ensued. The incident escalated resulting in the Trooper being hit by the suspect’s vehicle. The Trooper is currently in critical condition in a Sioux Falls hospital.

At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General, Lincoln County State’s Attorney and the South Dakota Highway Patrol for a final determination on the officers’ actions.
