HENDERSON PLEADS GUILTY TO EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGE

(BROOKINGS) Attorney General Mark Barnett said that Thomas R. Henderson, 46, now of Fresno, California, pleaded guilty yesterday in Third Circuit Court to embezzlement of property received in trust, a Class 4 Felony. The charge and subsequent plea was a result of an investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation into allegations that while track coach at South Dakota State University, Henderson embezzled travel funds advanced by the University for the purchase of meals for student athletes.

Sentencing has been scheduled for February 22 at 1:30 in Brookings. Embezzlement carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Assistant Attorneys General Tim Bartlett and Paul Cremer are prosecuting the case for the State.
