Gann Valley Woman Convicted by Jury for First Degree Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault in Death of Toddler

 
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley and Brule County States Attorney David Natvig announced today that a Brule County jury returned a verdict finding Donika Gonzales, 23, Gann Valley, guilty of first degree manslaughter, class C felony, up to life imprisonment in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine, and aggravated assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and/or $30,000 fine. 

Charges stemmed from activities arising from an incident on February 21, 2013, of abuse resulting in the death of a 4 year-old child. 

This case was investigated by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Brule County States Attorney.
