Inmate Indicted for Homicide at the State Penitentiary

                                Inmate Indicted for Homicide at the State Penitentiary

 
PIERRE, S.D –  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that inmate Douglas A. Ipsen, 28, Sioux Falls, was indicted on one count of first degree murder, class A felony, punishable by death or mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary, one count of second degree murder, class B felony, punishable by mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary and one count of manslaughter in the first degree, class C felony, punishable by up to life imprisonment and/or $50,000 fine.

The indictment charges that on or about September 7, 2014, Ipsen killed his cellmate Kent Davidson at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Ipsen is currently serving a 60 year sentence for first degree rape and an additional consecutive 15 year sentence for sexual contact with a child under the age of 16. All of the sentences are from Butte County. 
Ipsen is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
 
The case continues to be investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
