Attorney General Jackley and 44 Other Attorneys General Call on Leading Telecommunication Providers to Offer Call-Blocking Technology to Consumers

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley and 44 other State Attorneys General today called on the leading telecommunication providers to offer call-blocking technology to help consumers stop unwanted telemarketing calls and texts.

“We are simply asking the leading telecommunication providers to join the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and state efforts to allow consumers to make the choice to implement the call-blocking technology. Consumers nationwide are plagued with unsolicited robocalls, scam texts and unwanted telemarketing calls -consumers should be given the basic right to block these solicitations, “said Jackley.

In September 2014, the State Attorneys General asked the FCC for an official opinion that would allow telephone carriers’ the legal ability to implement call-blocking technology. On June 18, 2015 the FCC approved a rule change allowing telecommunication providers to offer call-blocking technology to consumers.
