Attorney General’s Office to Review Officer Involved Shooting in Rapid City



PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred Friday, February 26, 2016, at approximately 11:26 p.m. The incident occurred in the area of Twilight Drive and Concourse Drive.

A Pennington County Deputy was conducting a traffic stop, when a struggle ensued resulting in the Deputy firing his duty weapon at the subject.

The male subject identified as Abraham Mitchell Fryer, 35, Sturgis, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officer’s action. The release of the summary is anticipated within 30 days.
