PIERRE, S.D.  –  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) kicks off this week and the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division will join with federal, state and local government agencies and national organization to celebrate this 18th annual event.  NCPW is a coordinated campaign that encourages consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions.

“The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division plays a vital role in the enforcement of laws that protect consumers and provide mediation services to help resolve complaints,” said Jackley. “This week highlights the importance of all consumer organizations working together to spread awareness and protect consumers."

In 2015, the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division recovered $2,632,056 for South Dakota consumers. The Division fielded 34,669 consumer inquires including phone calls, emails and correspondences.
