DCI Seeks Help in Video Lottery Burglaries throughout State

PIERRE, S.D.-  Burglaries of business establishments with video lottery devices continue to be a problem across the state.  The series of burglaries began back in February with the most recent report coming in mid May.  A total of 19 known burglaries in 11 counties have been reported to date.  The crimes are being committed in the early morning hours. There are some related characteristics involving the burglaries, but a commonality is all burglaries have involved entering video lottery machines.

A suspect vehicle description was provided in a few of the burglary reports.  A dark colored sport utility vehicle, possibly a Toyota 4-Runner, Nissan Xterra, or Jeep Cherokee type has been reported.  Additional descriptive information includes black or reddish brown/burgundy color, and a boxy style four door type vehicle.  A spare tire possibly covers the tailgate area of the vehicle.   Reports also indicate the presence of one to three suspects at some of the burglary locations.

Officials are encouraging anyone with any information to please contact SSA Pat West at (605) 394-2258 (Ext 119).
