Inmate Pleads Guilty to Aggravated Assault

PIERRE, S.D. –  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that State Penitentiary inmate Curtis Timothy Wilson, 26, pled guilty today to one count of aggravated assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or $30,000 fine. Wilson was sentenced today as well and received a 10 year sentence with 3 suspended to run concurrent to the offense he is currently serving.

“Recognizing our prison system’s dual role of punishment with the opportunity for rehabilitation, inmates are expected to follow the prison rules and the law. Inmate attacks on other inmates or guards will not be tolerated,” said Jackley.

Wilson assaulted his cellmate while the cellmate was sleeping.  He tied a sock to a padlock and hit him in the face multiple times.

This case was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
