Minnehaha County Man Convicted for Financial Elder Abuse

PIERRE, S.D.  –  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that a Minnehaha County jury returned a verdict finding Ronald Wayne Whalen, 47, Sioux Falls, guilty of 1 count of forgery, class 5 felony, punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $10,000 fine.

Charges stem from an incident in which the defendant took financial advantage of his senior neighbor on January 30, 2017.
This case was investigated and prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Subdivision.
