Four Arrested in Assault of Sturgis Woman

PIERRE, S.D. – Law enforcement confirm that four individuals have been arrested on the following charges: 

Azariah Job Conley, 18, Sturgis.   One count of Aggravated 2nd Degree Kidnapping, class 1 felony, punishable by up to 50 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine;  one count of 1st Degree Burglary, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine; one count of Aggravated Assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or $30,000 fine; and one count of Identity Theft, a class 6 felony, punishable by up to 2 years in the state penitentiary and/or $4,000 fine.

Moses Isai Avila, 19, Fort Collins, CO.  One count of Aggravated 2nd Degree Kidnapping, class 1 felony, punishable by up to 50 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine;  one count of 1st Degree Burglary, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine; one count of Aggravated Assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or $30,000 fine; and one count of Identity Theft, a class 6 felony, punishable by up to 2 years in the state penitentiary and/or $4,000 fine.

Elizabeth Loraine Mauk, 18, Fort Collins, CO.  One count of Aggravated 2nd Degree Kidnapping, class 1 felony, punishable by up to 50 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine;  one count of 1st Degree Burglary, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine; one count of Aggravated Assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or $30,000 fine; and one count of Identity Theft, a class 6 felony, punishable by up to 2 years in the state penitentiary and/or $4,000 fine.

Armando Louis Valdivia, 18, Fort Collins, CO. One count of Aggravated 2nd Degree Kidnapping, class 1 felony, punishable by up to 50 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine;  one count of 1st Degree Burglary, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine; one count of Aggravated Assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or 30,000 fine; and one count of Identity Theft, a class 6 felony, punishable by up to 2 years in the state penitentiary and/or $4,000 fine.
 
The arrests stem from an incident that took place on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at a residence in Sturgis.  A 54 year-old victim was hospitalized as a result of the incident.  During the course of the investigation, investigators learned the identity of potential suspects and suspect vehicle.
 
On November 7, 2017, Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office made contact with suspects and vehicle in Spearfish.  Further investigation by the Spearfish Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Division of Criminal Investigation led to the arrests of Conley, Avila, Mauk, and Valdiva. 

The case is being investigated by the Spearfish Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County Sheriff’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
