Stephan Borchert Jury Trial  

PIERRE, S.D.-   Attorney General Marty Jackley announces today that a Pennington County jury found Stephan Borchert guilty of one count of felony Embezzlement. The charge arose out of incidents that occurred while Borchert was hired by Wild Card Rodeo to sell rodeo sponsorships, where he misrepresented the sponsorships and converted money that had been entrusted to him. Borchert was indicted October 1, 2009.  He pled not guilty and was convicted by a jury at his trial on February 19, 2010. Borchert also admitted to a Part II Information for Habitual Offender on February 22, 2010, exposing him to an elevated sentence of 15 years incarceration and a $30,000 fine. Borchert’s sentencing is scheduled for Monday, March 15, 2010. This case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Heidi Linngren and Jeff Tronvold.
