Attorney General Larry Long Launches Statewide Sex Offender Registry

PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Larry Long announced July 1, 2006 that the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry is officially online. By logging on to www.sor.sd.gov, the public can now gain access to sex offender information under South Dakota law SDCL 22-24B-11.

"The Registry has been a collaborated effort between state legislators and law enforcement officers statewide," said Long. "We are committed to making this information readily available and current so that we can keep the public informed and safe from sexual predators."

The Division of Criminal Investigation is required by law to maintain an internet site containing sex offender information to include offender name, physical description, photograph, address, type of sex crime convicted of, dates of commission and the dates of conviction of any sex crime committed and a summary of the offense.

Citizens may search for a convicted sex offender by entering in one or more of the following search criteria: last name, first name, address, county, city or zip code.

If you have any questions regarding the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry contact Sara Rabern at 605-773-3215.
