Redfield Man Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide

(Pierre) – On Monday, Gerald Neu of Redfield pled guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of John Knott of Lebanon, SD.  The collision occurred in April of last year, on South Dakota highway 20 near Chelsea.  Neu had been drinking alcohol sometime prior to crossing the highway centerline and striking the Knott vehicle.  The deceased’s wife, Verna Knot, was a passenger in his vehicle and also suffered injuries.    

Neu is awaiting sentencing before Judge Larry Lovrien.  Sentencing is scheduled for March 19 at the Faulk County Courthouse.  Vehicular homicide is a class 3 felony which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine.

Neu’s prosecution was handled by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Faulk County States Attorney.
