Highmore Man Sentenced for Vehicular Homicide

Highmore Man Sentenced for Vehicular Homicide

(Pierre) – Sentencing was held Monday in Hyde County Circuit Court before Judge James Anderson, for Scott Pekarek, 19, on one count of vehicular homicide in the death of Jamie Kusser of Highmore. Judge Anderson entered an order suspending imposition of sentence on several conditions including 90 days of incarceration at the state penitentiary. Pekarek’s 4 year probation is conditional by 40 hours of community service, driver’s license suspension for a period of two years and he is not allowed to drink alcohol or to enter a drinking establishment.   

The roll over accident occurred on December 22, 2002 in Hyde County. Pekarek entered a guilty plea on March 24, 2003.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General John Strohman from the Office of Attorney General and Patrick Voorhees, the Hyde County States Attorney.
