Preliminary Investigation Results Released

PRELIMARY INVESTIGATION RESULTS RELEASED

(Pierre)-Attorney General Larry Long today released preliminary investigation results of a death in Faith, South Dakota. On 03-05-04, the body of a Native American male juvenile was found hanging by the neck from playground equipment at the Faith school grounds. Initial responding officers were the Faith Police Department, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The Officers on scene secured it, photographed and videotaped the area and contacted the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation to assist with the investigation. The body was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital pending an autopsy.

Preliminary findings suggest that death was self-inflicted. Autopsy results indicate that the cause of death was asphyxiation secondary to hanging. The contents of a note found on the body also suggest that death was self-inflicted. The decedent had not attended the Faith school for the last couple of years and was currently enrolled elsewhere. Toxicology results have not been completed. No evidence has been found to indicate foul play. The investigation will conclude once final toxicology tests results are returned and all interviews are conducted.
