Box Elder Woman Sentenced for child Abuse

BOX ELDER WOMAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE 

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Larry Long said today that Dusty L. Hagen, 31, of Box Elder, was sentenced yesterday in 7th Circuit Court on one count of child abuse. Hagen was sentenced to 5 years in the South Dakota Penitentiary with 5 years suspended. She was placed on probation for 5 years on several conditions including 180 days of incarceration at the Pennington County Jail, community service, inpatient treatment, mandatory parenting classes, periodic testing of bodily fluids and warrantless search and seizure. 

Hagen was arrested on February 13, 2004, following an undercover drug operation where she had left her children in a vehicle during the drug transaction. Hagen was arrested for possession with the intent to distribute and child abuse. She plead to one count of child abuse on June 14, 2004. 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Rod Oswald.
