Scotland Man Faces Additional Murder Charges

 

PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley said today that Chris A. Miller, 37, Scotland, who was  initially charged with felony child abuse and aggravated assault for a child under 3 years of age last week  has now been charged with alternate counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter in the first-degree in the death of a 4-month-old in Bon Homme County. 
 
Miller was originally arrested last week for an incident in Scotland on the evening of March 3, 2011. First-degree murder is a class A felony with a mandatory penalty of life in prison. Second-degree murder is a class B felony with a mandatory penalty of life in prison. Manslaughter in the first-degree is a class C felony with penalty up to life in prison.
 
Miller is presumed innocent until proven guilty. 
 
This case continues to be investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office.
