North Dakota Man Sentenced to 60 Years for Hamlin County Manslaughter Case

 

PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley and Hamlin County States Attorney Jeromy Pankratz announced today that Steven John Helm, 43, Bismarck, N.D., was sentenced today for the 1st Degree Manslaughter of Jesse James Gisi of Watertown. Circuit Court Judge Foley sentenced Helm to 60 years in the state penitentiary. Helm plead guilty to Manslaughter in the 1st degree for the August 1, 2010, shooting of Gisi on the premise that Gisi had requested assistance in ending his life.  
 
Agencies assisting in the investigation were the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Police Department, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Estelline Police Department, Bismarck North Dakota Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
