South Dakota Highway Patrol Officer Involved Shooting Summary

 

PIERRE, S.D.  –   Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Cody Engen on September 6, 2011, in Custer, South Dakota.
 
The Division of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation at the request of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
 
The incident occurred on September 6, 2011, following several calls for service in the city of Custer. It is the conclusion of this report and the Attorney General that Trooper Todd Albertson was justified in firing his weapon and using lethal force.
 
The Attorney General would like to thank the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office and the Officers for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation. Attorney General Jackley would further like to send condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
