Federal Bill Allowing Robo-Calls to Cell Phones Withdrawn

PIERRE, S.D.-  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the federal proposal to allow automated calls to cell phones has been withdrawn.
The Attorneys General voiced their concerns through a joint letter to Congress requesting that they oppose the "Mobile Informational Call Act of 2011" that would have amended the Communications Act of 1934 and allowed for robo-calling to all cell phones.
“The Attorneys General made the right decision in expressing to Congress how this federal legislation would adversely affect our consumers’ privacy,” said Jackley. “South Dakotans will be much better off without this evasive and potentially costly federal action.”
