(Pierre) – One of the state’s most prominent attorneys will be on hand to offer the sixth grade class from Chester congratulations this evening.

Chief Deputy Attorney General Larry Long will be the featured speaker at the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduation in Chester. The ceremony will be held in the Chester Area School at 7pm tonight.

“This is a great program and lets the younger generation know about the importance of staying drug and violence free,” said Long.

The 24 graduates participated in a 17 week course instructed by Deputy Dave Bendt of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Bendt met with the class once a week. The course included lessons on the consequences of using drugs, drug resistance, and self-esteem improvement. The program also brought in high school role models to teach the 6th graders about positive alternatives to using drugs and alcohol.

The program has been taught in the Chester Grade School for close to 10 years.
