Sioux Falls Police Department Awarded Latent Fingerprint Station from Drug Control Fund

PIERRE, S.D.  – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the Sioux Falls Police Department has been awarded $35,000 to put towards the purchase of a Safran MorphoTrak Latent Station to be used in drug investigations. The money was awarded out of the Drug Control Fund. The award will assist local law enforcement in drug control and apprehension purposes. 

The Safran MorphoTrak Latent Station will include computer equipment and software to be utilized by a qualified latent print examiner to enter latent prints, including those found at crime scenes. This equipment has the capability to compare against known prints of those previously arrested as well as future arrests. 
 
“We’re pleased that the Attorney General’s Office was able to help us with the purchase of this equipment. This technology will greatly enhance our ability and timeliness to solve crimes through the use of fingerprint evidence. Not only will it benefit us locally, but also across our region,” said Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel.

“The Drug Control Fund was setup with this type of expenditure in mind,” said Jackley. “Keeping up with changing technology allows our law enforcement to protect our communities with the greatest efficiency possible.”
