Fall River County Man Indicted for Murder in Catherine Tornquist Investigation

Fall River County Man Indicted for Murder in Catherine Tornquist Investigation


 
PIERRE, S.D -   Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that Matthew Charles Tornquist, 26, Hot Springs, was indicted yesterday by a Fall River County Grand Jury. Tornquist was indicted on alternate counts of first and second degree murder. The penalty for first degree murder is either death or a mandatory life sentence. The penalty for second degree murder is a mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary. He was also indicted on one count of grand theft, class 4 felony, maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment and/or $20,000 fine.
The indictment charges that on or about October 4, 2011, Matthew Tornquist murdered his mother at her home in Fall River County. There have been over 50 searches in relation to Catherine Tornquist’s disappearance including public assisted searches.
Tornquist is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Division of Criminal Investigation, Fall River County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Police Department. The Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.
