Rapid City Man Convicted by Jury for Possession and Distribution of Methamphetamine

 

PIERRE, S.D.  –     Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that a Pennington County jury returned a verdict yesterday finding Derek Chad Vice, 41, Rapid City, guilty of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), class 4 felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine and distribution of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), class 4 felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine. Vice also faces habitual offender charges, which could elevate the punishment to 50 years and/or $50,000 fine.
Vice purchased methamphetamine from an undercover informant in a Rapid City residential neighborhood in March of 2011. Vice had been previously convicted on other drug related charges in Lake and Pennington counties.
This case was investigated by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team and was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
