Scotland Man Convicted by Jury for Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault in Death of Infant Son

PIERRE, S.D.-  Attorney General Marty Jackley and Bon Homme County States Attorney Lisa Rothschadl announced that a Turner County jury returned a verdict tonight finding Chris A. Miller, 39, Scotland, guilty of second degree murder, class B felony, mandatory life sentence in state penitentiary and aggravated assault, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and/or $30,000 fine.

Charges stemmed from a 911 call from the Miller residence in Scotland on March 3, 2011, where 4 month-old Jacob Miller was reported as not breathing. Hospital staff notified law enforcement that Jacob was diagnosed with a severe skull fracture and bleeding on the brain.

This case was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation, Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office and the Scotland Police Department.
