Gregory County Man Indicted for Murder in Death of Infant

Gregory County Man Indicted for Murder in Death of Infant

 
PIERRE, S.D –   Attorney General Marty Jackley and Gregory County States Attorney Amy Bartling announced today that Adam Joel Bruns, 20, Gregory was indicted March 7, 2014 by a Gregory County Grand Jury. Bruns was indicted on alternate counts of second degree murder and first degree manslaughter. In addition, he was indicted on two alternative counts of aggravated assault and felony child abuse. The penalty for second degree murder is a mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary.  The maximum penalty for first degree manslaughter is a life sentence in the state penitentiary. Aggravated assault and felony child abuse are both class 3 felonies and carry maximum penalties of 15 years and/or a $30,000 fines.

The indictment charges that on or about February 25, 2014, Adam Bruns caused the death of 3 month-old Levi Bruns.

Bruns is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Gregory County Sheriff’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation. Gregory County States Attorney Amy Bartling and the Attorney General’s Office are prosecuting the case.
