Lyman County Woman Pleads Guilty to Accessory to a Crime

PIERRE, S.D.-  Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today Dayna Wells, 28, Oacoma, entered a guilty plea to one count of accessory to a crime, class 5 felony, punishable by up to 5 years in the state penitentiary and/or $10,000 fine.

Charges stem from an incident on September 4, 2015, in Oacoma, S.D. resulting in the stabbing death of Calvin James Shields.  Shield’s body was recovered on Monday, September 7, 2015.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled.

Agencies assisting in this investigation include the Chamberlain Police Department, Brule County Sheriff’s Office, Lyman County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation.  This case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Lyman County States Attorney.
