Government Openness Task Force Meeting

(Pierre) – Attorney General Larry Long announced today that the next Government Openness Task Force meeting will be held in Pierre on March 7th, at 1:00 p.m.  The meeting will be held at   Matthew Training Center in the Foss Building.

During the third meeting the task force discussed issues pertaining to the definition of public records and access to electronic public records.  There was also some discussion that the laws are unclear and inconsistent and that a system to compile or categorize laws would make them easier to use.

The agenda for the next task force meeting will be covering a wide range of issues from examining existing penalties, reviewing gray areas in the laws for possible clarification, and more fully discussing electronic issues. "I urge anyone interested in participating to show up, input from the public is vital to the success of these meetings," Long said.
