Aberdeen Man Indicted for Murder in Andover Apartment Fire Case

PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Marty Jackley and Day County States Attorney Danny R. Smeins announced today that Jose Anibal Quinones Rodriguez, 36, Aberdeen, has been indicted by a Day County Grand Jury on March 1, 2018 on the following:

• one count first degree murder, class A felony, mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary or death

• one count of first degree felony murder, class A felony, mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary or death

• one count of second degree murder, class B felony, mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary

• one count of first degree arson, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine

• one count of first degree burglary, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine

• one count of commission of felony while armed with a firearm, class 2 felony, punishable by up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000

• one count of aggravated assault domestic violence, class 3 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in the state penitentiary and/or $30,000 fine 

Charges stem from incidents in Andover between February 8 and February 9, 2018, which involved brthe shooting death of Tawny Rockwood and a structure fire at her place of residence. 

Rodriguez is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty. Cash bond has been set at $1 million dollars. 

This case is being investigated by the Day County Sheriff's Office, Aberdeen Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, State Fire Marshall’s Office, ATF and the Division of Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the Day County States Attorney.
