Spomer Pleads to Theft Charges

(Deadwood) – Attorney General Mark Barnett announced that Todd Jacob Spomer, 30, of Sioux Falls pleaded guilty today in 4th Circuit Court to two counts of Grand Theft by Deception, both Class 4 felonies. Spomer was indicted by a Lawrence County Grand Jury in July 2000 and was accused of running a fraudulent investment scheme.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 23 in Deadwood. Spomer faces a maximum sentence of ten years in the penitentiary and a ten thousand-dollar fine for each charge. He also faces restitution to victims and the state totaling $34,000. Spomer is currently in custody at the Lawrence County Jail.

Assistant Attorney General Paul Cremer is prosecuting the case for the state.
