Berget Pleads Guilty to Premeditated Murder for Death of Correctional Officer R.J. Johnson

 

PIERRE, S.D. –  Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that Rodney Berget has plead guilty to count one of the indictment, 1st degree premeditated murder, a Class A felony, which carries a mandatory sentence of death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
 
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for January, 30, 2012. At that time the State will bear the burden to prove at least one statutory aggravating factor.  Attorney General Jackley has filed notice of the State’s intent to seek the death penalty.
