State Penitentiary Inmate Sentenced for Assault on Correctional Officer

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that State Penitentiary inmate Aaryn Anthony Arango, 28, pled guilty to assault by inmate, intentionally causing contact with bodily fluids or human waste, SDCL 22-18-26, a Class 6 felony, from an incident occurring last July in the Penitentiary.

Meade County Man Sentenced in Manslaughter Case

– Attorney General Marty Jackley and Meade County States Attorney Kevin Krull announced today that Berton Toavs, 33, Faith, was sentenced to 110 years for the first degree manslaughter of Eliza Edgins and 100 years for the first degree manslaughter of Nathan Gann. Toavs pled guilty to the both counts of first degree manslaughter on December 21, 2016.
