Law Enforcement Responds to Clear Lake Double Shooting

Law Enforcement Responds to Clear Lake Double Shooting


PIERRE, S.D.  – Attorney General Marty Jackley said today that law enforcement was called to a Clear Lake residence on Sunday, June 16 around 9 p.m. to respond to a call for a double shooting. Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were flown to a hospital for medical care. Alleged shooter, Brett M. Pommer, 40, Clear Lake, proceeded to barricade himself in the residence.

South Dakota Highway Patrol SWAT and Codington County SWAT Teams attempted to negotiate with Pommer, but no contact could be made. Joint SWAT teams then entered the residence to find Pommer deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Agencies who assisted include the following: Deuel County Sheriff's Office, Grant County Sheriff's Office, Codington County Sheriff's Office, Hamlin County Sheriff's Office, Estelline Police Department, Watertown Police Department, South Dakota Game, Fish and Park, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Codington County Search and Rescue,  Deuel County Emergency Management, Deuel County Volunteer Fire Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
