Attorney General’s Office to Review Officer Involved Shooting in Rapid City
PIERRE, S.D - Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred September 30, 2013. The suspect, William Chandler, 27, Rapid City, has been admitted to the hospital for a gunshot wound. A second individual, Joseph Paul Andrews, 23, Rapid City, who was also in the vehicle, was arrested on a probation violation warrant.
South Dakota Highway Patrol attempted to make a vehicle stop that resulted in a pursuit that ended near exit 55 on Interstate 90. The incident escalated and resulted in Trooper Mike Bock shooting the suspect.
At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officers’ action. The release of the summary report is anticipated within 30 days.
