Attorney General’s Office Releases Officer Involved Shooting Summary

PIERRE, S.D  - Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of William Chandler, 27, on September 30, 2013, in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation at the request of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on September 30, 2013, when in erratic driving by a motorist escalated into a chase, foot pursuit and standoff with law enforcement. “It is the conclusion of this investigation and the Attorney General that the officer was justified in firing his weapon and using lethal force,” stated Attorney General Jackley. “I would like to thank the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the troopers involved for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation.”

Chandler is facing numerous criminal charges in Pennington County related to this incident.
