McVay Appeal Dismissed and Murder Conviction to Remain of Record
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the South Dakota Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal of James V. McVay. McVay, an inmate at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, committed suicide on September 2, 2014 while serving a capital sentence for the stabbing death of Maybelle Schein.
“I would like to recognize the important work of Minnehaha County States Attorney Aaron McGowan and local law enforcement through the investigation and prosecution in this difficult murder case. The conviction is final and our thoughts remain with the Schein and McVay families,” said Jackley.
