Law Enforcement Seeks Public Assistance in Officer Involved Shooting in Charles Mix County
PIERRE, S.D - Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred October 30, 2014 in rural Charles Mix County. The suspect, Russell Duaine Turner Jr., 40, Dante, is still at large.
The Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call near Dante early this morning. Upon arriving at the scene, a deputy approached a vehicle that was occupied by two individuals. The incident escalated and resulted in a Charles Mix County Deputy firing rounds into the vehicle. The vehicle left the scene at a high rate of speed. The passenger of the vehicle, a juvenile, has been located with injuries not from gunfire. The vehicle, a pick-up truck, has been recovered in Charles Mix County.

At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officers’ action.
