Attorney General's Office to Review Officer Involved Shooting in Mitchell

PIERRE, S.D.  -  Attorney General Marty Jackley confirms that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the Mitchell Police Department, is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred November 8, 2014.

Mitchell Police Department responded to a call for service at the 1200 block of S. Burr Street, Mitchell. The incident escalated and resulted in Mitchell Police Department Sargent David Beintema shooting and injuring Joy Ann Sherman, 52, Mitchell.

 At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General, Davison County States Attorney and the Mitchell Police Department for a final determination on the officers' action.  The release of the summary report is anticipated within 30 days.
