BRULE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

PIERRE, S.D. - Attorney General Marty J. Jackley and Brule County States Attorney David Natvig announce today that Donald London, 42, Kimball, has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and 2 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.    The charges are Class 2 felonies, each punishable by up to 25 years and/or $50,000 fine.   London was arrested yesterday afternoon without incident after a standoff with law enforcement that lasted close to 24 hours.   Bond has been set at $1,000,000.

Michael London, 66, Chamberlain, was also charged with two counts of Aiding and Abetting Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, a Class 2 felony, subject to 25 years and a $50,000 fine.   Bond has been set at $500,000.  Both are presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.

“I want to recognize the extraordinary effort by SD Law Enforcement statewide to rescue an injured South Dakota State Trooper and resolve an armed standoff.  Three armored vehicles with six well trained tactical teams and negotiators were deployed from across our State.  Many of our first responders undertook multiple high power rifle rounds being fired upon them throughout this standoff.  We are thankful for these resources and trained tactical officers that were immediately and selflessly deployed throughout the state to Kimball.  Containment of the events and protection of the public was accomplished despite the difficult weather conditions due to the bravery and extraordinary cooperation of Law Enforcement that we have in South Dakota, every single day.  Our greatest wish is for the complete recovery of Sergeant John Koenig,” said Attorney General Jackley.

Agencies assisting in the incident are the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Brule County Sheriff's Office, Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, Aurora County Sheriff's Office, Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, Lyman County Sheriff's Office, Jerauld County Sheriff's Office, Mitchell Police Department, Chamberlain Police Department, Sioux Falls Police Department, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

The case continues to be investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation.
