Moody County Sheriff’s Office to Receive Money for Tasers
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that the Moody County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $6,142.25 for tasers to be used in drug investigations. The money was awarded out of the Drug Control Fund. The award will assist local law enforcement in drug control and apprehension purposes.
“The Drug Control Fund allows law enforcement to combat controlled substance abuse by funding local programs with monies seized from drug arrests,” said Jackley. “These funds will assist the Moody County Sheriff’s Office to better protect its communities.”
"With the increase of drug related arrests and the possible drug trafficking that goes through our county via the intestate, I strongly feel the addition of tasers are a huge asset in maintaining not only officer safety, but the safety of the offender as well. People on drugs do not rationalize well and given the ability to deescalate a situation with less hands-on and less than lethal force will be beneficial,” said Moody County Sheriff Troy Wellman.
