Brandon Man Indicted on Deceptive Business Transactions

  
PIERRE, S.D.  – Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today that Joseph Matthew Stanford, 38, Brandon, was indicted February 10, 2015 by a Minnehaha County Grand Jury. Stanford was indicted on one count of grand theft by deception, class 4 felony, maximum penalty of 10 years and/or $20,000 fine, one count of grand theft by deception, class 5 felony, maximum penalty of 5 years and/or $10,000 and one count of selling a motor vehicle without the consent of lienholder, class 6 felony, maximum penalty of 2 years and/or $4,000 fine.

The indictment charges that in late 2013, Stanford, owner and principal of Moto Joes, engaged in deceptive business transactions surrounding the selling and buying of a vehicle. 

Stanford is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.

This case was investigated with the cooperative efforts of the South Dakota Department of Revenue Division of Motor Vehicles, the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division and the Division of Criminal Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
