Sioux Falls man pleads guilty to grand theft for stealing state property

(Pierre) – On Tuesday, Keith Edward Lane Jr. pled guilty to grand theft for stealing state property.  During the summer of 2001 Lane had served as a seasonal employee for the Department of Transportation.  Part of his employment gave him access to a State vehicle that contained a state gas credit card.  After Lane was released from his employment, he took the gas credit card and used it for his personal vehicle as well as for some of his friend’s vehicles.  The unauthorized charges took place from November 2001 until April 2002 and amounted to approximately $970.

Lane is awaiting sentencing before the Judge Joseph Neiles on March 7.  Grand theft is a class 4 felony which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and/or a $10,000 fine.

Lane’s prosecution was handled by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
