Attorney General’s Office to Review Officer Involved Shooting in Yankton

 
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley and Yankton County States Attorney Rob Klimisch confirm that the Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request of the Yankton Police Department is investigating the officer involved shooting that occurred Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m. The incident occurred in downtown Yankton. 

The Yankton Police Department responded to a 911 domestic disturbance call involving a gun at a Yankton residence.  Upon arrival at the residence, the subject was not located and law enforcement began a search that took over an hour and involved multiple officers from different agencies. The search ended in an alley in downtown Yankton resulting in Yankton Police Sgt. Jason Foote shooting the armed subject. 

The male subject was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for injuries. The injured subject has been identified as Trae Allen Angel, 19, Yankton.

At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officer’s action. The release of the summary is anticipated within 30 days.
