Lyman County Woman Arrested for First Degree Murder
PIERRE, S.D.- Attorney General Marty Jackley announced today Whitney Renae Turney, 27, Oacoma, was arrested for first degree murder, penalty is either death or mandatory life sentence and in the alternative, one count of 1st degree manslaughter, class C felony, up to life imprisonment in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine.
Turney was arrested last evening for the stabbing death of Calvin J. Shields. Charges stem from an incident that occurred on or around September 4, 2015, in a residence in Oacoma, S.D. Shield’s body was recovered on Monday, September 7, 2015.
Turney is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
Agencies assisting in this investigation include the Chamberlain Police Department, Brule County Sheriff’s Office, Lyman County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
