Jansen Sentenced in First Degree Rape Case
PIERRE, S.D – Attorney General Marty Jackley and Hughes County State’s Attorney Wendy Kloeppner announced today that Christopher R. Jansen, 34, Selby was sentenced to 25 years for each of the two counts of rape in the first degree that he pled to on July 29, 2015. Both sentences will run consecutively.
“Jansen’s deliberate and planned abuse makes him a very dangerous man. He will now be behind bars to prevent him from further harming children,” said Jackley. “We hope that today’s resolution of this criminal case brings closure for the family.”
"It’s been a lengthy process for the victims and their families. I am pleased the end result was a penitentiary sentence,” said Kloeppner. “I am proud of the work done and the level of cooperation achieved by all of the involved agencies in bringing this case to resolution.”
Charges stem from several incidents over a four year period at a residence in Hughes County and involved three children, whose ages ranged from 5 to 13.
This case was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office and Mobridge Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Hughes County State’s Attorney.
