Mitchell Police Department Officer Involved Shooting Summary Released

PIERRE, S.D.  – Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Curtis James Meyer on September 4, 2015, in Mitchell, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation at the request of the Mitchell Police Department.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2015, following a noise complaint at a Mitchell residential neighborhood. “It is the conclusion of this report and the Attorney General that Senior Officer Russell Stevenson was justified in using lethal force while struggling over the firearm in Curtis Meyer’s possession. I would like to thank the Mitchell Police Department and the Officer for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family of Curtis Meyer,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
