Lawrence County Officer Involved Shooting Summary Released

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Marty Jackley and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Rory Gunderman on September 16, 2015, in rural Lawrence County, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation at the request of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on September 16, 2015, following a vehicle and foot pursuit in rural Lawrence County. “It is my conclusion as Attorney General that Lawrence County Deputy Sergeant Patrick Johnson, Detective Joseph Leveque and Deputy Matthew McCroden were justified in firing their weapons and using lethal force. I would like to thank the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Officers for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family of Rory Gunderman,” stated Attorney General Jackley.
