Attorney General Jackley Leads National Attorneys General Delegation to Taiwan
PIERRE, S.D – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley as President of the National Association of Attorneys General led a delegation of Attorneys General on a mission to Taiwan to discuss criminal justice on October 12-17, 2015.
“Prosecutors in the United States and Taiwan face similar challenges to protecting our communities from the same addictions and violent crimes such as human trafficking. Our meetings reinforced the importance of 21st century policing, as well as the economic importance of our strong trade partnership including agricultural products,” said Jackley.
The Attorneys General met with Taiwan President Ma-Ying-Jeou (photos and article attached) to discuss criminal justice, law enforcement and the economic partnership between the U.S. and Taiwan. The delegation also met with the Hon. Hau-min-Lai, the President of the Judiciary (photos attached) discussing the State of the Judiciary, human trafficking and addiction.
The delegation’s visit further included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the American Institutes of External Trade Development Council, the Hsinshu District Prosecutors Office, the Taichung Branch Court, and the Taichung Women’s Prison.
This delegation occurs every two years at the request of the Government of Taiwan and is paid for by the Taiwanese Government. The delegation included: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster, Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, and Jim McPherson Executive Director of the National Association of Attorneys General.
