Inmate Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder 

(Pierre) – As part of a plea agreement with the Attorney General’s Office, Paul Jr. Soyers, a South Dakota Penitentiary inmate, pleaded guilty to attempted murder today. Soyars, 34, was indicted on the charge after he attacked another inmate in July. 

Soyars is also facing federal charges for threatening President Bush and for sending a threatening letter through the United States Mail Service. Soyars remains in the state penitentiary and is scheduled to be sentenced for attempted murder on December 2. 

The Attorney General’s Office is handling the prosecution of the state charges and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will handle the prosecution of the federal charges.
